Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2 October 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Automata ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar technologies on automata.mt. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy. It applies to visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland as well as elsewhere.

1. What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser when you visit a website. Websites also commonly use browser local storage, a similar technology that stores small amounts of data in your browser without an automatic expiry, until it's manually cleared.

2. How We Use Cookies and Local Storage

We keep our use of cookies and local storage to a minimum. We do not run advertising networks, we do not use social media trackers, and we do not sell your data. We currently don't run analytics or behavioural tracking on this site.

3. Cookies and Storage We Use

The table below lists what we currently use:

  • Functional local storage (e.g. remembering that you've dismissed a banner or notice) — set by Automata, strictly functional, no expiry beyond what your browser applies to local storage.
  • Website hosting / form-security cookie — set by our hosting and form-processing provider when you submit the contact form, purely to prevent spam and abuse. Session-length or short-lived.
  • Google Fonts request — loading our typeface from Google's font service is a direct request from your browser to Google's servers, which may log your IP address. Google Fonts does not set a cookie in this configuration, but the request itself is a data transfer worth disclosing.

We don't use advertising, retargeting, analytics, or profiling cookies.

4. Third-Party Services

Website hosting and form processing. Our site is hosted by a third-party provider that also processes contact form submissions on our behalf. This may involve a technical cookie used only to protect the form against spam.

Google Fonts. We load web fonts from Google's font service to keep the site fast and consistent. This means your browser makes a direct request to Google when you load a page.

5. Your Consent

Strictly necessary cookies and local storage entries — the kind that are essential to operating the site — don't require your consent. Because we don't currently use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies, we don't run a cookie consent banner. If that changes, we'll update this policy and add a consent mechanism where required.

6. Managing and Deleting Cookies

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

To clear local storage entries, you can use your browser's developer tools or the "clear site data" option available in most browser privacy settings. Disabling cookies may affect how some third-party services on our site function.

7. Your Rights

You have rights under GDPR relating to any personal data collected through cookies or local storage, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing. See our Privacy Policy for full details, or contact Malta's Information and Data Protection Commissioner (IDPC) if you have concerns we haven't resolved.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our site evolves. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above — we encourage you to review this page periodically.
